Where it all began
Welcome to Stonehaven Farm, a family-owned property located in the scenic hills of Bristol, VA. Since 2016, Kelly and Eric Stone have poured their hearts into transforming this land into a thriving farm, focused on raising happy sheep, nurturing protective Great Pyrenees, and soon will be offering high-quality lambs to our community.
Over the years, Kelly and Eric have made significant improvements to the land—fencing in 8 acres, adding chicken coops, clearing overgrown brush and trees, and building dedicated spaces for their animals, including a pole barn for the sheep and a cozy home for the dogs. Each of these changes has been carefully designed to support the health and well-being of their animals.
At Stonehaven Farm, we’re passionate about the care we give to our animals and the land. We raise healthy sheep with a focus on quality and welfare, and we breed and raise Great Pyrenees dogs who are known for their loyalty and protective instincts. We’re deeply committed to ensuring that both our animals and our farm thrive, with Eric’s dream of retiring into full-time farming and continuing to grow the farm’s legacy.
Thank you for being a part of our journey. Whether you're purchasing lambs or looking for a new canine companion, we take pride in offering the best of what our farm has to offer.
Putting the “Great” in Great Pyrenees
At Stonehaven Farm, we know firsthand why the Great Pyrenees is one of the best breeds for any farm. With their calm yet protective nature, these majestic dogs have earned their place as guardians of livestock. Great Pyrenees are natural protectors, known for their incredible instincts to keep watch over sheep, goats, and other animals. Their gentle demeanor combined with a strong, independent nature makes them ideal companions for any farm setting.
Kelly and Eric have had the pleasure of raising 9 Great Pyrenees over the years, and currently, they’re joined by 4 beloved dogs: Shep, Sadie, Pete, and Pearl. Each of these dogs has played a crucial role in the care and protection of the farm, ensuring the safety of both the livestock and the land. Their loyalty and dedication to their work make them indispensable members of the farm team.
Whether they're keeping watch over the sheep or simply adding a sense of security and warmth to the farm, the Great Pyrenees are more than just dogs—they're true farm guardians and family members.
Meet the Parents
Pete and Pearl hold a special place in the heart of Stonehaven Farm as the first Great Pyrenees pair to be bred here. Their partnership has been the foundation of our breeding program, bringing the next generation of loyal and protective guardians to the farm. Both Pete and Pearl are exceptional dogs, known for their calm demeanor, strong protective instincts, and unwavering dedication to their flock.
Pete, with his gentle yet watchful nature, and Pearl, with her nurturing spirit, make the perfect pair. Together, they’ve passed on their remarkable traits to their puppies, ensuring that each new generation carries the same commitment to protecting and caring for the farm. Their puppies are raised with love and care, learning the ropes of farm life from their devoted parents.

What to Expect Raising Great Pyrenees
Great Pyrenees are natural guardians, and their role on the farm is to protect livestock, which means they need a job to do. From a young age, they are trained to bond with the animals they are meant to guard, often forming strong relationships with sheep, goats, and other animals on the farm. It’s essential to give them space to do their job while also ensuring they are well-socialized and accustomed to their human family members.
While they are independent, Great Pyrenees are also affectionate and enjoy spending time with their families. They thrive in environments where they are given the freedom to roam, patrol their territory, and keep watch over their charges. They are not a “one-size-fits-all” dog and require an understanding owner who can balance their protective instincts with gentle training and positive reinforcement.
In addition to their mental stimulation, Great Pyrenees also require proper physical care, including regular grooming to manage their thick coats, especially during shedding season. They need space to exercise and stay active, as they are large dogs with a lot of energy. Providing them with the right balance of care, attention, and responsibilities is key to raising a happy, healthy, and effective farm guardian
